Aaldering Shiraz 2010
The Shiraz from Aaldering Vineyards & Wines is a rich ruby-red wine with lots of red fruit and spices, especially showing hints of cinnamon and black pepper. The Aaldering Shiraz is a definite must for Shiraz lovers.
The scoop on Shiraz
‘Shiraz’ or ‘Syrah’ is all about the grammar. How the label spells the varietal tells a lot about its style. Its heritage lies in the French Rhone where it is referred to as the traditional ‘Syrah’. But when this grape proved to be a great varietal for wine growing regions far away from its origin, 9.000 km in the case of Aaldering Vineyards & Wines, it showed so much potential on a whole different level that those regions decided the varietal needed a twist in the name to show its distinction, hence ‘Shiraz’ was born.
Nevertheless the grammar of the varietal, the grape remains the same. An intense dark blue skinned grape which brings a lot of color and powerful aromas to the wine. Depending on terroir the aromas range from violets to blackberries and hints of chocolate, black pepper, or espresso. Aaldering Shiraz ages well with time and shows beautiful secondary aromas.
Did you know that Shiraz
Is presumably named after Syracuse? That is the Sicilian city where Roman emperor Probus allegedly took the specific vine from to France sometime after AD 280. If this is true the Syrah, or Shiraz for that matter, has an extreme ancient history and we should be thankful these vines were preserved so well that we can still enjoy ‘Shiraz’ nowadays.
