Aaldering Chardonnay 2011

The Aaldering Chardonnay 2011 is the latest member of the Aaldering wine collection, and already considered one of the finest Chardonnays in South Africa. Its brilliant and golden colors set the platform for a wine that exudes classic and elegant Chardonnay tones. Stone fruit, pears, citrus and a hint of butterscotch are all uplifted by a minerality and flint that follow through on a seamless fresh and round textured palate.

The scoop on Chardonnay

Winemakers all over the world adore the Chardonnay grape because of the grapes flexibility, and the global consumer cannot get enough of it. Out of the total world wine production 8% accounts for just Chardonnay!

This popular white wine generally comes in two styles: showing either a steely, fruity and crisp character or a barrel-fermented Chardonnay, with rounder and buttery flavors.

The first vintage of Aaldering Chardonnay produced is 2011 and received from newly planted vines. There were very low yields recorded in its first production, with the final volumes showing a production of only 1.3 tons/ha. This was mainly due to young age of the vines, with the follow up crop expected to be considerably larger, yet in the future gaining more complexity from the older age of the vines.

Did you know that Chardonnay
Varies greatly with climate, soil and winemaking? But nevertheless it adapts just about anywhere in the world. The main places are France, Chilli, Australia, the United States and of course South Africa. The original Chardonnay grape comes from the Bourgogne in France, and is also well know as one of the three traditional Champagne grape varieties. Cheers!
